‘Historic transfer’ – Polish side signed Arsenal graduate from Premier League team named biggest loser of summer window

Leeds have been appointed the big losers of the shopping stroll of this summer – and it could be worse because a transmission is an eye on the story.

The moderator of Talk Sport Breakfast, Jeff Stelling, argued that the whites had the worst window, and a former star hoped to become a well -known name abroad.

Sam Greenwood started his journey from the edge of Leeds United to a potential European star on the Polish side Pogon Szczecin.

The former Arsenal Academy player spent the entire career in England in front of a surprising transfer to EkstraKlasa.

The 23-year-old came through the ranks for the first time in Sunderland before the Gunners defeated Manchester United to sign him as a teenager.

Two years later, Leeds completed a six -figure purchase of Greenwood when he returned to the Premier League in the summer of 2020.

The English U21 international has now started moving again after the most recent promotion of championship.

This summer, Greenwood, which was loaned at Preston North End last year, after a season in Middlesbrough for 4.5 million GBP (3.5 million GBP) on the Polish side Pogon.

While the fee for the Premier League clubs is a decline in the ocean, it is an enormous investment for the three-time qualifications of the League conference.

Tan Kesler, who was appointed CEO, Vice President and minority shareholder at Pogon in March, was the key to the Leeds star.

The former deputy chairman of Hull City said exclusively to Talksport.com: “It was obviously an exciting transmission for us.

“I am from England and then know the championship dynamics, I know the organization of the league directly from us and also knew how much they invested in players like Sam, Joe Gelhardt.

“I was very high in Hull and knew him from our scouting department, Lee and the rest of our recruitment specialists; they all only knew him out. [his] Arsenal days.

“To be honest, we believe that the championship intensity for additional classes could be very useful.

“Sam has always been a dynamic player, versatile, had different things to offer on the field, be it the wrong nine, be it ten or whether it is sometimes eight.

“We needed a position in such, but we also searched for a festival tent player who could start others.

“Poland is an up -and -coming market. We are known as a development player and sell players, but at the same time it is just a high -ranking, very highly intensive league.

“We wanted to convince people that players from other big leagues and top players consider coming to Poland and being a festival tent player and being an example for many other English players.”

Poland is an emerging market

This summer, young English talent talent went to Germany, and Carney Chukwuemeka and Jarell Quansah leave Chelsea and Liverpool for Borussia Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen.

Jonathan Rowe found his feet in the Italian club Bologna after leaving Marseille, but Greenwood broke the shape in Poland.

Kesler said: “He is technically suitable in our system, it is suitable for personality checks. He has an amazing family. His father was brilliant.”

Greenwood’s record work is now not just an investment for Pogon – hopefully it will be one that will pay dividends in the future.

Jadon Sancho’s decision to leave Manchester City for Germany began a trend that Jamie Gitten, Jew and Jobe Bellingham were emulated.

The Netherlands have also proven to be a breeding ground in recent history, especially Mason Mount, Noni Madueke and Dominic Solanke.

Creating a path for English talents

In the same way, Greenwood could act as the first of a number of aspiring English talent that drive to EkstraKlasa for gametime.

“We wanted to make a way between England to Poland and Poland to England,” the 46-year-old told Talksport. “Not just a way, it is more of a trustworthy channel between the player acquisitions.

“Sam is a child’s play, and I have to thank our president because he was personally involved with me to convince him, and he has promoted all his financial data to reach the deal too.

“I look at the overall picture. Sam is an ambassador, and hopefully he will be represented in English talent in Poland so that not only the players come here, but we also want foreign investors to invest in Polish football and extra cluster teams so that we can develop the league.

“Then you can create high standards and increase the football standards and also be suitable for English talents.”

Greenwood will be this trendsetter

“It’s not just a simple plan,” Kesler continued. “It was more of a wider picture here. Sam has a larger mission than just being an English-talented top player who comes to Poland.

“He is not only a leader, he is also a festival tent player, but he will also be this trendsetter or an example for all English players who also want to consider in the Polish league.

“He has already made support and made his debut, and that shows that he has concentrated. Even for English players there are only limited ways for many countries.

“We also need and want to use local talents. That’s why I think that players in England get stuck with certain leagues, and they are very skeptical when it is not the top leagues.”

Greenwood’s decision to make the jump is the braver when you consider that Pogon almost broke at the beginning of this year.

The Polish top side was 18 hours away from the loss of her license before Kesler, together with the owner Alex Haditaghi, contributed to turning the flood.

The Pride Pomerania has reached the final of the Polish Cup since then and enjoys sold -out crowds of more than 20,000.

On Pogon’s Pitch to Greenwood, Kesler revealed: “I think the most important part in which he was more interested as a club when we took over the management, we specifically said that we wanted to achieve something that has not been achieved for the history of the club since 1948, which gains a title.

“We told him that he will be part of a special group to achieve something that was not achieved in over 70 years. This kind of his family’s eyes opened.

“Of course we have a brand new stadium, two years old, full capacity, every home game 22,000. We had to show him that.

“That also made him believe that this is a big city in Poland, and a large club that has great ambitions and possessions and also has strong and large ambitions to achieve something special.

“We also told him how close we were, which probably made him more impressed. We were a Cup finalist last year and the year before.

“He knew that we would always pursue European competitions. To be honest, he said to be fair, he felt that he was a challenge in Europe and a European player, a high -ranking European player.

“Of course there are a number of British players from England to Germany, Italy. We thought about why not Poland.

“He was very interested. He realized that it could be his starting point to go to larger leagues.

“I will not deny that we are still an up -and -coming league compared to Italy, Germany, Bundesliga. We are not underdeveloped.

“We currently have three teams that play in the conference, in European competitions and regularly in the group phase. He saw this path.

“I think that convinced him. It was the field that we gave him.

“Apart from obvious, our president is also a very sentimental and emotional person. I sent him an offer with a very emotional message. He was also surprised that he had a kind of family environment here, in which he also wanted to be part.

“I really have to thank him for understood and open to our project in Poland. Of course he had his own demands.

“That’s why I thank our president for the fact that we have also promoted his financial data. We have invested very clearly in Sam.

“He is one of the most historical actors for us in relation to what we invest financially. But it was not a financial discussion.

“He was really on board to play European football. We had to convince him that we could give him this European football within the infrastructure and management.

“He spoke to the coach. The coach loved him. He loved the coach. They discussed his position.

“He was convinced. Everything came and he didn’t have too many doubts.”
