Stephane Guivarc’h is still haunted by the 1998 World Cup final, but that’s not the reason why he is now selling swimming pools.
The former striker won this tournament with France and defeated Brazil 3-0 with 3-0 thanks to a master class of Zinedine Zidane, but he still cannot fathom how he lost his goal in the greatest game of his career.

With a hit rate that would be frightened by every defense, the now 54-year-old looked back on a season in which he was completely blunted by unstoppable.
Guivarc’h left Auxerre for Rennes in 1996 and was from Auxerre, where he repeated the performance in back-to-back season.
When he recorded 21 goals in the league, he scored 37 goals in all competitions and scored his selection for France at her home tournament in 1998.
In his only tournament for Les Bleus, however, the striker became goalless in his six games and passed on the stress on Zidane and Thierry Henry.

“It still follows me today that they keep thinking about it,” Guivarc’h told RMC Sport in 2023.
“It is a world championship, it is in France, you scored 37 times in the season and that day you have square meters.
“This makes football so charming! Lilian [Thuram]He did not score a goal in his career and in the semi -finals he scored with his right foot and left foot! “
The attempt to explain why things didn’t work, he continued: “You don’t have anyone in your wings, so it’s more complicated.
“It is not the same pattern that I had in Auxerre, where I crossed two machines and where it was enough to be present on the first or second post. There were fewer efforts while running.”

Guivarc’h played for 66 minutes in a dominant victory for Ten-Man France against Brazil in the final and, despite the never points, was still part of one of the largest team in his country.
With his profile through the roof, the star born in Brittany made a trip to Great Britain.
After the World Cup, Newcastle bought him for £ 3.6 million under the manager Kenny Dalglish and scored his goal with a goal in his debut against Liverpool.
It did not work, Ruud Gullit replaced Dalglish when Boss and Guivarc’h months later were sold to Rangers and won a height with the Scottish team before he ended his career with even more goals with Auxerre.
Guivarc’h then returned to a Guingamp and became her top scorer ever before he described it for a day for a day at the age of 32.
Guivarc’h, one of the most famous strikers of French football, also enjoys a call in Great Britain as a cult field. However, such a visible face did not stop him of an interesting retirement.

“I’ve been in swimming pools for 17 years,” he said. “The boss is a friend.
“Basically, the company was a sanitary company that made my house. My friend then told me that he would create a swimming pool structure and that he was looking for a seller.
“Since I did nothing, I told him that I would give him a helping hand … and I’ve been with him for 17 years, it is no longer a helping hand.
“I’m on the road all day, it works very well, I’m at home in the evening … I have a balanced life, I’m not constantly looking for the camera or the microphone.”
Although Guivarc’h, like many of his former teammates, completely rejected a career in management or in the expert, football still gave a topic, especially that one game that he does not like to remember.
“We often talk about the swimming pool for a quarter of an hour and then an hour of football!” he said.
“Because 98 had a significant influence, it was the first World Cup in France.”

After Newcastle’s latest step for a French striker has learned her lesson, she is more likely to prepare for the World Cup than for the result.
The Magpies are interested in signing Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitens, who rated € 90 million this summer (£ 77 million).
But with such a strong price and long -standing interest of Liverpool, you don’t expect transmission to floating further …
