‘It stings’ – EFL club gutted after striker rejects four Championship teams for Bundesliga move


Peterborough United was frustrated after Ricky-Jade Jones was connected to FC St. Pauli on a free transfer on the Bundesliga page.

The 22-year-old star made the decision to go to Germany with the League One Club after his contract.

Jones spent his entire career at Posh, played over 200 games and scored 41 goals in six years.

Last season he joined eleven times and provided three templates in the third stage in which he played in a difficult campaign.

But with his current deal at the end of this month, Jones has now decided to continue.

And Peterborough Chairman Darragh Macanthony, a regular talk sport, does not seem to be happy about how one of his stars will leave.

After announcing the move, Macanthony gave some additional details about Jones’ decision and revealed that he had rejected four different championship teams to go to the Bundesliga.

He wrote about X: “He [Jones] Rejected 4 brilliant champ clubs to take this step, which cost his hometown club a lot of money.

“I will not lie … It stabs and makes me bitter for the moment, since the child was with us so many years and I would not have it more support. But we continue and don’t look back.

“This is football and sometimes it can step into your nuts.”

Macanthony indicated that Jones had rejected paid offers from English clubs during the season, which meant that Peterborough could not redeem.

One of these clubs is probably Cardiff City, who confirmed that in January they tried to bring in the striker.

The noble chairman was clearly frustrated that this summer he will leave the club in a free offer instead.

However, Jones will go on a new trip and he is looking forward to driving in Germany’s top class.

In his signing, he said: “I felt that the time had come for a new challenge and I am glad to get this opportunity at FC St. Pauli.

“I look forward to a very international team, enthusiastic fans and big teams in one of the strongest leagues in the world and would like to contribute to a successful season with my ability.”

The St. Pauli manager Alexander Blessin added: “His explosive pace is Ricky’s most obvious quality and often he can only be stopped by a foul.

“But he knows how to use his pace, which not only makes him an attacking threat, but also to a massive team player when pressing and transitioning to defense.”

Jones reached an astonishing top speed of 22.3 miles per hour in the first division.
