‘It’s not going to change’

Pep Guardiola, Manager of Manchester City, rated his own performance in the shelter this season as “really poor” and admitted that even the win of the FA Cup would not change his low opinion on the campaign.

Guardiola’s team are no strangers to break records, although the 2024/25 campaign led to City going out on some unwanted milestones.

For the first time in the glittering career of the Catalan coach, he was unable to lead his team into the 16th round of the Champions League. This decreasing iteration from City has already granted more Ligapiele than any other Guardiola team with nine remaining games and has the real risk of recording its bad top top finish.

In the same afternoon that he admitted that the players had not earned a financial bonus this season, Guardiola provided a similarly devastating assessment of his own coaching performance. “Really poor” was his verdict. When Guardiola was asked to expand these fights, he flinched his armpits: “Forget it.

“The titles we have won in the past never gave us the opponents a red carpet to win the titles we won. My duty was to overcome the situation much better than I did.”

Even when the city prepared for a FA Cup quarter-finals against Bournemouth on Sunday, Guardiola saw no redemption sheet for his side. “I’ve said often lately; of course it could be nice to come in the FA Cup final and win it and qualify for the Champions League, but I’m pretty sure it’s a great success. But the season was poor, it won’t change.

“Our standards and many things were not good, that’s the reality. So it won’t change if we win a title. We will be happy? Of course we want it!

“Again I said it was a great success, it is a great success to win the FA Cup, but the season was not good.”
