Leicester have announced that club legend Jamie Vardy has signed a new one-year contract after leading the Foxes to promotion to the Premier League.

The 37-year-old scored 18 goals in the Championship and helped the team from the Midlands to return to the top league straight away.

Vardy had been linked with a move to Welsh team Wrexham, who will compete in League One next season.

But the former England international will be looking to make another attempt at the Premier League in his 13th season at the King Power Stadium.

On the club’s website he expressed his joy, saying: “To achieve the numbers I have achieved, [last season]I’m excited, but there’s more to come.

“I take care of myself. I’ve always said that age is just a number.”

“My legs feel good, so I keep going until my legs say, ‘That’s it, game over.’

“The day will come when that will happen, but now is not the day.”

“We are looking forward to another season in the Premier League and seeing what we can achieve.

“This is one hundred percent the best league in the world. You want to play football there.”

Since joining Leicester in 2012, Vardy has made 464 appearances and scored 190 goals.

The experienced striker has scored 136 of his goals in the Premier League and will be keen to lead the Foxes to survival in their first season back in the top flight.
