Kevin de Bruyne has admitted that he was shocked by Manchester City’s decision not to extend his contract and revealed that he had not spoken about his future before.
The 33-year-old confirmed at the beginning of this month that he would leave the city if his contract was going on this summer and ended his ten-year connection with the club. Manager Pep Guardiola later revealed that it was more of a club decision than de Bruyne’s wish to go.
“There was a bit [of shock]”De Bruyne reflected the media.” I had no offer from them all year round and the club made a decision. Obviously I was a bit surprised, but I have to accept it.
“To be honest, I still think that I show at this level as I show, but I understand that clubs have to make decisions.”
De Bruyne revealed the truth behind the announcement of his exit and confessed that City’s decision was made for a few days before going to social media to say goodbye.
“It was half a week until I reported it and it wasn’t nice,” he added. “My family was not at home. They were on vacation, so it was a bit strange, but it is what it is.
“After the decision was made and when I came out, it was more of a relief when I reported it to the outside world than I knew it and nobody knew. They do not know what to do with the emotions with everyone and how to deal with it in the club. Now it is that it is good and see how I am.
It is believed that City has decided to separate himself from De Bruyne to finance a large troop overhaul this summer. Manchester was reported to earn around £ 400,000 a week, and this salary can now be used to hire younger players to fight the team again for the Premier League title for the team next season.
“It is basically the reason why you made the decision – because the entire team fought,” said de Bruyne.
“Maybe if the team did not fight and I came back, how I did it this year and how normally embedded, then you might make another decision. I don’t know – you told me what the decision was and I can’t really say what you think from the inside. I still think that I am in good condition, I have been playing more than last year.
“I don’t have the feeling that I want to share [the exact reasons for City’s decision] Because it is basically more business for you and you have made a decision based on this. It wasn’t really a long conversation. It was exactly what they told me and then there is nothing. I have to accept the situation even though I have the feeling that I can still do a good job, but that’s it. “
