Lecce manager offers Patrick Dorgu update after second Man Utd bid rejected

Lecce coach Marco Giampaolo has praised Patrick Dorgu for managing to rediscover his focus amid significant events interest in his service from Manchester United.

Dorgu is United’s main target to strengthen at left-back, but the Red Devils have so far failed to meet Lecce’s €40m (£33.8m) asking price. They have made two offers for the Denmark international, the last of which was worth €30m (£25.3m).

Giampaolo admitted that the speculation initially took its toll on Dorgu, but the 20-year-old has managed to distance himself from the reports of late.

“This week he was good, last week he was a little distracted,” Giampaolo said. “He is 20 years old, everyone is talking about him, the best European teams are demanding him, that is normal and he is human.”

“However, he is very mature. He’s certainly lost some attention last week, but in the last few days I’ve seen him well, I’ve spoken to him and I don’t think he’s fazed by the transfer market.”

United are expected to return with a third offer for Dorgu, who is believed to be interested in a move, but ESPN State that the Red Devils are now considering re-signing Alvaro Carreras from Benfica if they are unable to sign Dorgu.

Carreras left United’s academy last summer but is available for a buyout clause of around €18m (£15.2m). However, he recently stressed that he is in no hurry to leave the Portuguese side.
