Leroy Sane is already a huge fan of Mikel Arteta as Arsenal ‘keep an eye’ on Bayern Munich situation

Leroy Sané has previously expressed his gratitude to Mikel Arteta after reports emerged that he could join Arsenal in the summer.

The winger signed for Bayern Munich in 2020 after spending four years at Manchester City, winning two Premier League titles.

Arsenal are reportedly monitoring Sané’s contract situation at Bayern.

At City, Arteta was assistant coach to Pep Guardiola before taking over as head coach at Arsenal in 2019.

This summer could see a reunion with Sané as he and the Gunners prepare for another challenge for the Premier League title.

According to Sky Deutschland, “the Gunners are monitoring the situation regarding new contract negotiations for Sané at FC Bayern.”

The 28-year-old is said to be in talks about extending his stay at the club beyond the expiration of his current contract in summer 2025.

Sané could therefore stay at Bayern, but his previous comments about Arteta suggest that a move to Arsenal could rekindle a strong partnership.

Speaking about working with the Spaniard at City earlier this year, he told The Mirror: “It was great. I was happy to work with him because he really helped me at City.”

“We talked a lot individually about how I could improve, about my strengths and weaknesses. We worked a lot. I made great progress under him, he conveyed that to me.”

“I still keep that in mind and incorporate it into my game – the positioning, how to behave in certain positions. I’m grateful.”

During his time at City, Sané played 135 games across all competitions, scoring 39 goals and providing 43 assists.

He won the FA Cup, three Carabao Cups and two Community Shields as well as his Premier League titles before moving to Bayern.

Sané’s return to Germany was also successful, as he was part of three Bundesliga-winning teams in four seasons.

In addition, he has won the DFL Supercup, the Supercup and the Club World Cup and has been involved in 98 goals in 175 appearances.

Should Sané leave Bayern and move to Arsenal, he could compete with Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Martinelli for the starting place on the left wing.

He can also play on the right side of attack and would therefore be a versatile option for Arteta in north London.

Arsenal’s first summer deal was the permanent signing of David Raya from Brentford following his loan spell.

The second new signing was Riccardo Calafiori, who completed his move from Bologna for an initial fee of £34 million, announced on Monday.
