Liverpool sign Sam Kerr on loan from Bayern Munich

Liverpool have signed Scottish international Sam Kerr on loan from women’s Bundesliga club Bayern Munich for the remainder of the 2024/25 season.

The 25-year-old moves to Merseyside after struggling to break into Alexander Straus’ Bayern squad this season, having only started twice so far.

The midfielder will be a strong addition to Matt Beard’s side, who have been criticized for their lackluster performances in the summer transfer window ahead of the start of the 2024/25 Women’s Super League (WSL) season. The Reds, who currently sit eighth in the league table, have struggled to maintain the momentum of their fourth-place finish last season.

Kerr won 30 caps for Scotland and was named Player of the Year for the 2022 season. They were also named PFA Scotland Team of the Year in the 2021/22 and 2022/23 campaigns.

Kerr is no stranger to silver, having won six championship titles so far throughout her career. She won the Scottish Women’s Premier League title with Glasgow City in 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019, before winning it again in 2022 with Rangers.

“We made the decision together with Sam that it was important for her further development to get more playing time,” said Bianca Rech, director of women’s football at Bayern Munich. “With Liverpool we have found a club that is a perfect cultural and linguistic fit for Sam.”
