Liverpool will be looking to extend their lead at the Premier League summit on Saturday afternoon when they host Ipswich Town.
The Reds secured a late but much-needed win against Brentford last weekend thanks to an injury-time brace from Darwin Nunez, with Liverpool’s lead now increased to six points after Arsenal blew a two-goal lead in a draw with Aston Villa had. Arne Slot’s team also still has a game ahead of them against their title rivals.
After their trip to the capital, Liverpool welcomed Lille to Anfield in the Champions League. Despite a second-half scare against the French team, Harvey Elliott’s deflected shot ensured the Reds’ perfect record in the league phase of the competition and ensured them automatic progress to the round of 16.
Ipswich was Slot’s first competitive opponent as Liverpool manager when the two sides dueled on the opening day of the season and the Tractor Boys suffered a 2-0 defeat. Such results have been far too common for the Suffolk side, who currently sit in 18th place following their 6-0 defeat to Manchester City last weekend.

Liverpool didn’t come through the victory over Lille unscathed, although they were able to take a break and make substitutions on Tuesday evening. Curtis Jones only lasted in the first half and had to withdraw due to injury. Slot confirmed that the midfielder will miss the weekend’s game.
Slot will still be without Portuguese sharpshooter Diogo Jota for Ipswich’s visit, with the injury-prone striker back on the sidelines. The Dutch coach has revealed that Liverpool’s number 20 is likely to be out for “weeks rather than months”.
Jota will return ahead of his treatment room colleague Joe Gomez, who is missing with a hamstring injury sustained in Liverpool’s final game of 2024.
Predicted Liverpool line-up against Ipswich (4-2-3-1): Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson; Gravenberch, Mac Allister; Salah, Szoboszlai, Gakpo; Diaz.
Julio Enciso signed for Ipswich on loan from Brighton & Hove Albion on Thursday and could feature in some capacity at the weekend, with his January colleague Jaden Philogene making his debut off the bench last Sunday.
Ipswich could use all the attacking reinforcements they can muster on Saturday as Conor Chaplin and Sammie Szmodics are extremely unlikely to travel to Merseyside. Chiedozie Ogbene, who scored for Luton Town at Anfield last season, is out for the rest of the season.
Predicted line-up for Ipswich vs Liverpool (5-4-1):Walton; Johnson, Godfrey, O’Shea, Burgess, Davis; Hutchinson, Morsy, Cajuste, Philogene; Delap.
After sending six players against an inconsistent Man City side last weekend, Ipswich now fear the worst at Anfield. Liverpool are the league’s top scorers this season, while only three teams have conceded more goals than Kieran McKenna’s side.
Liverpool have even been granted the luxury of making changes for their midweek Champions League clash and are expected to have a refresh of staff across the pitch this weekend. They will miss the influential and often captivating Jota, but they have a wealth of impressive strikers ready to capitalize on Ipswich mistakes.
The Reds have not been flawless defensively in recent games and could face trouble on the counter-attack with the strong Liam Delap, but Slot’s men should claim a comfortable win on Saturday.
