Man City announce £29.4m signing of Vitor Reis from Palmeiras

Manchester City have confirmed this signing from Palmeiras central defender Vitor Reis.

The 19-year-old Reis has attracted interest from some of Europe’s elite teams, but City acted aggressively at the start of the transfer window and made the Brazilian a key part of their defensive overhaul.

Uzbekistan international Abdukodir Khusanov recently completed a move from Lens for £33.6m and Reis has now followed him through the door for a reported £29.4m.

“I am delighted to be joining Manchester City, one of the biggest clubs in the world,” he told club media. “Everyone has seen the amazing success of the last few seasons and I want to make my mark as we strive for more trophies.”

“Every young player wants to work with Pep Guardiola and I know he can help me develop into the best player I can be.”

“City also have a lot of experience working with Brazilian footballers and adding players like Ederson and Savinho to the squad will be a big help to me.”

Director of football Txiki Begiristain added: “Vitor Reis is one of the most promising young defenders in the world and we are delighted to be able to bring him here.”

“In his short time in Brazilian senior football he has proven that he is capable of going very far in the game and we know that working with Pep and our coaches will help get the best out of him. He’s excellent on the ball and excellent in the air – he has all the qualities you need to be one of the best.

“Vitor is very young, but his quality is so high that we believe he can help us now and for a long time in the future.”
