Man City announce £59m signing of Omar Marmoush from Eintracht Frankfurt


Manchester City have officially announced this Arrival from Omar Marmoush from Eintracht Frankfurt in a deal worth €70m (£59m).

The Egypt international is the latest signing in a busy January transfer window for the defending Premier League champions. Brazilian centre-back Vitor Reis signed from Palmeiras on Tuesday, a day after acquiring fellow defender Abdukodir Khusanov from Lens.

Marmoush has had the best season of his career, scoring 15 goals and 10 assists in just 17 Bundesliga appearances for Frankfurt so far. The 25-year-old striker, who can play anywhere up front, was signed by Liverpool last year.

City football director Txiki Begiristain, who will leave the club in the summer, won the race to sign Marmoush and was full of praise for one of his final signings at the club. “Omar is an accomplished and exciting striker and I am delighted that he is joining us,” said the Spaniard.

“He had an outstanding season and every time we saw him he influenced games.”

“He has all the qualities a first-class attacker needs. He has outstanding pace and awareness and he is exceptional in front of goal. He can also play in different positions, which is a really valuable advantage.”

“I also have no doubt that by working with Pep and the technical staff here at City he will continue to develop his outstanding attacking talent.”

Marmoush will wear the number seven shirt and has signed a contract until the summer of 2029, which includes add-ons of up to £4 million.
