Man City rebuild begins with £33m deal and Harry Kane scoring rival set to follow in £50m transfer

According to The Pitch Prospect, Manchester City have agreed a deal to sign Abdukodir Khusanov from Lens.

The reigning Premier League champions have agreed a deal worth £33million plus add-ons for the 20-year-old centre-back.

Khusanov is set to be City’s first signing in the transfer window.

Khusanov will now undergo a medical before signing a four-and-a-half year contract with the option of a further year. This will undoubtedly be the biggest deal in the January window to date.

The Uzbekistan international was previously a target for Tottenham but will instead join their Premier League rivals this month.

He is expected to be City’s first signing in the January transfer window and will be a welcome addition given the injuries in defense.

John Stones is currently suffering from a foot injury while Ruben Dias is struggling with muscle problems.

Khusanov was a youth player at Uzbek club FC Bunyodkor before moving to FC Energetik-BGU Minsk in Belarus.

He scored four goals in 37 appearances for the club and thus secured a transfer to France to Lens.

Making his debut in September 2023, the defender became the first Uzbek player to ever play in the French top flight.

At international level, he played 18 games for his country and featured in last year’s AFC Asian Cup.

City could make another signing in January as they look to revive their disappointing season as defending champions.

Eintracht Frankfurt star Omar Marmoush is of interest to the club but The Pitch Prospect understands they will have to pay £50m for him.

Marmoush could also be on the way to becoming Premier League champions.

Marmoush has scored 13 goals in the Bundesliga this season, one behind top scorer Harry Kane of FC Bayern Munich.

Pep Guardiola declined to comment on his potential move as he spoke to the media live on The Pitch Prospect ahead of the FA Cup clash against Salford City.

“I made it clear in my response that I would not talk,” he insisted. “He’s a player from another club, I don’t say an answer.”

“You can say in every single press conference that you should talk about the transfer window until the end, I won’t answer a single question!”

“The same thing happened before. I made it clear. You can always try, no problem at all, but you know my answer. It’s easy. No comment.”

A £50m move from Marmoush would be the biggest deal in the January window so far as clubs strengthen for the final months of the season.
