Bernardo Silva has admitted that Manchester City’s “cycle” ended when he asked the club to rebuild the squad this summer.
The defending champions of the Premier League have decreased this season in terms of expectations. They sit 20 points behind the leaders Liverpool and were unloaded on the play-off stage from the Champions League.
Manager Pep Guardiola has publicly admitted that his aging squad cannot meet the physical requirements of the modern game and the calendar, where she often plays at least twice a week.
Speak to DaznSilva also admitted that City’s current squad is not at the expected level and asked those responsible to be active on the transfer market.
“It was a difficult season, very frustrating, because the level we humans got used to was very high,” he said. “A level at which we have won six leading leagues in the last seven seasons, we have always managed to achieve very advanced phases of the Champions League.
“Of course due to the different phases of a career, generations and cycles end due to the age, and this club has to renew itself.
“Nobody managed to win four titles in the Premier League in a row, as we did last year, so the maintenance of this level will always be difficult.
“We try to find different solutions, and I am sure that this club will be very successful again in one way or another. It was a bad six months and we have to accept it. But I hope that six bad months would not question everything, because that would be the beginning of the end.”
According to reports, Guardiola would like to separate with at least seven players of the first team this summer, with the experienced midfielder Kevin de Bruyne being exposed to uncertain futures.
