Man Utd slash ambassador salaries of more club legends as brutal cost cutting continues

Manchester United will reportedly cut payments to another group of club legends as part of Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS’ ongoing efforts to cut spending.

Ratcliffe was heavily criticized for overseeing a series of controversial cost cuts. Sir Alex Ferguson’s salary as an ambassador was cut last year and the INEOS boss was recently accused of secretly stopping payments to a charity supporting former players.

Meanwhile, a significant number of the club’s staff were made redundant and ticket prices increased last year, and now it looks like INEOS has secured more ambassador deals in its bid to save money.

The Pitch Prospect were the first to announce that United had informed club legends such as Bryan Robson, Denis Irwin and Andy Cole that their ambassador salaries would be cut.

After that is the Daily Mail say the pay-cutting process may not be complete yet, with United officials potentially eyeing deals with a number of former players working as “matchday legends”.

United is understood to be concerned about compliance with profit and sustainability rules and trying to save money wherever possible. It insists that these cuts are a necessary part of running a business effectively.

On the pitch, these austerity measures have also led to Ratcliffe and INEOS acknowledging that no player can be considered untouchable, sparking transfer interest in midfielder Kobbie Mainoo and winger Alejandro Garnacho.
