City are close to signing Marmoush from Frankfurt.

Frankfurt are seeking a package worth over £60 million for the Egypt international.

Marmoush scored in a 1-0 win over FC St. Pauli on Saturday, extending his Bundesliga goal tally to 14 this season.

This puts him behind Harry Kane, who scored 15 goals for FC Bayern Munich and is the top scorer in Germany.

Marmoush is expected to be one of two new signings at City as they have also agreed a deal worth £33m plus add-ons for Abdukodir Khusanov.

The 20-year-old central defender comes from Lens and signs a four-and-a-half-year contract with the option of a further twelve months.

City have been missing Ruben Dias and John Stones in central defense recently as both players have suffered injuries.

They could be without another experienced player this month as Pep Guardiola revealed that Kyle Walker has asked to leave the club.

“He told the club two days ago that he wanted to consider a move abroad,” he told The Pitch Prospect after the 8-0 FA Cup win over Salford City. “He wants to finish his career somewhere else.”

“He asked two years ago and I tried to convince him to stay and he signed a contract and he was really important and won the Premier League as captain last season.”

“Now he says he would like to go to another country in this transfer window.

Marmoush is the second highest goalscorer in the Bundesliga this season.

“He is a player who, if he is fit and focuses on his attitude as a player, can play for another one, two, three years. I’ve never seen a physical condition like him in my life.”

“Any success we have had over the eight years is due in large part to him and the boys have played almost 100 games with the England national team.”

“I don’t have to tell you how important he was, but now he has told the club he wants to have another experience – explore was the right word – and we’ll see what happens.”

City will be hoping their heavy spending in January will lead to an upturn in form in the second half of the season.

Their Premier League title hopes hang by a thread as they sit sixth in the table, 12 points behind leaders Liverpool.
