Manchester United in talks over Serie A star who dreamt of joining Premier League rivals

According to The Pitch Prospect, Manchester United are considering a January transfer for Patrick Dorgu.

The 20-year-old currently plays for Lecce in Serie A after joining their academy from FC Nordsjælland in 2022.

United are considering a transfer for Lecce star Dorgu.

Dorgu is worth more than £33million, with his left-back position at United seen as needing strengthening this month.

Since his arrival he has played 56 times for Lecce, scoring five goals and assisting two more.

The defender also made four appearances for the Danish national team.

Although United sit 13th in the Premier League, the opportunity to move to Old Trafford may be too good for Dorgu to turn down.

However, he has previously expressed his admiration for long-term rivals Chelsea, who were linked with a move last year.

“I’ve been a Chelsea fan for many years, so of course it’s clear that it’s a dream,” he told Flashscore via Sport Witness.

“That doesn’t mean I can’t move to other teams in the Premier League, but even if things aren’t going well for them at the moment, they are my team.”

Manchester United have been playing a full-back system since Ruben Amorim took over as head coach in November.

Diogo Dalot played regularly on the left despite the long-term absence of Tyrell Malacia and Luke Shaw.

However, Dalot is a natural right-back, so Dorgu could replace him as a regular in that position.

United’s willingness to spend in January is no surprise given their deficits so far this season.

Sunday’s 3-1 defeat to Brighton leaves them 12 points outside the top four and has just seven league wins to their name.

Amorim, who recently did not rule out relegation, described his team as “perhaps the worst” in United’s 147-year history.

United are also expecting at least one exit this month, with Antony expected to join Real Betis on loan.
