The 23-year-old goalkeeper has played in all four domestic games from Antwerp and conceded four goals in four games.

However, he is now closer to the Red Devils edges.

Talksport reported for the first time in July the interest of Manchester United in Lammen and the talks have strengthened since then.

It is assumed that the shooting stopper will cost around £ 17m, while personal conditions should not be a problem.

The Belgian U21 international was appointed in March by Rudi Garcia, the senior team manager, but still has to earn his first upper limit.

Talksport’s transmission correspondent, Ben Jacobs, told the Sunday Edition: “From Manchester United’s perspective, they are looking for a young goalkeeper, but this does not necessarily affect the future of Andre Onana, who is expected to stay and still is number one.

“It would be a big surprise now that if it is late in the window, an experienced goalkeeper is in.

“We know that a loan offer was previously made in the window for Emi Martinez. Perhaps in the long run this is an indication that the position of Onana will be seriously taken into account over the next 12 months.

“My understanding is the Royal Antwerpen goalkeeper Senne Lammens, the player Manchester United tries to sign.

“They hope to hold the deal for around £ 17m.

“This is more likely to have an effect on the long -term future of Altay Bayindir than on Onana, whereby Lamens is seen as someone who can be a boy No. 2 and adds a competition, but cannot replace it overnight.

“I do not think that potential arrival will actually have an impact on Onana that is now expected to stay.”

In his playing style, Jacobs added: “Lammen is considered someone with a lot of authority in his box, as an instinctive shot stopper and very ripe for his age.

“In other words, one of these players who is young at a young age but actually played a lot of games.

“And then, where he has to improve, the distribution of his feet is, which is why a club like Manchester United does not necessarily stop at the deep end from the first day, but a great talent and someone that I belong in comparison to Mike Penders, the young person who is already borrowed in Strasbourg.

“So Manchester United is looking for someone who is young, can have a longevity in the club and be a No. 1, possibly pretty quickly, but not necessarily overnight.”
