Marseille join race for Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood

As The Pitch Prospect has learned, Marseille are considering signing Manchester United striker Mason Greenwood.

The French giants are in contact with Old Trafford bosses, but talks are still at an early stage.

Marseille would like to include Greenwood in their squad after positive talks with the player.

It is believed that the 22-year-old currently prefers a move to the Ligue 1 club over other options.

Manchester United remain focused on selling Mason Greenwood this summer and are aiming to get as close to the £40m valuation as possible, The Pitch Prospect reported on Wednesday.

Lazio, Napoli and Juventus as well as clubs from Spain, Germany and Portugal are very interested in Greenwood.

An offer worth over £17 million was rejected by Serie A side Lazio earlier this year.

A move to the Orange Velodrome is likely to see Greenwood work alongside former Brighton head coach Roberto De Zerbi after Marseille reached an agreement in principle for him to become the club’s new head coach.

OM wants to strengthen its attack this season and sees Greenwood as the perfect counterpart to last season’s top scorer, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Last season’s disappointing result (eighth place) means that Marseille will not participate in European competitions next season as the team tries to get back on track at domestic level.

Greenwood scored ten goals in 36 appearances for Getafe last season and the La Liga club have made it clear they would like to keep him for another 12 months.

Manchester United made the striker available for transfer in August 2023 after scrapping plans to reintegrate him into the first team at Old Trafford.
