Manchester United’s domestic battles continued on Sunday when they fell 1-0 at home against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The Red Devils made several changes when Ruben Amorim was promising to prioritize the Europa League, and what followed was a match that was mostly more quality in front of Pablo Sarabia’s late free kick, the victory for wolves.
How the game unfolds
Both sides took courageous starts for the game, even though he hadn’t seen a shot in front of Nelson Semedo’s wild long -distance drive in 22 minutes in 22 minutes, to be entertaining in the early phases. United’s first effort of all kinds came from a Christian Eriksen free kick 11 minutes later, conveniently won over the bar over the bar by Daniel Bentley.
Wing-Backs Harry Amass and Patrick Dorgu both played a handful of intelligent crosses in the box, but were questioned why nobody was in Red. That was a topic for both sides that achieved 0.11 goals combined before the break.
A flood of corners helped keep the pressure after restarting, as well as a moment of excellent skill of Rasmus Hojlund, which was just a few centimeters away, knocking an Alejandro Garnacho cross on the back post.
The replacement of Bruno Fernandes, which was somehow cut farewell to Garnacho’s low cross, for him.
It was another replacement, Sarabia, who shortly afterwards steel the show with a dazzling free kick. His wonderful effort turned over the wall and fell just four minutes after entering the game in the back of Andre Onanas Netz.
Mason Mount left United for an equalizer when searching for an equalizer, and the fate of United was soon sealed when Fernandes brought a free kick over Bentley’s bar.
In the establishment of the game, Amorim made no secret of his plan to prioritize the Europa League and give the youngsters of the association the chance to strut their things in the Premier League. The 20-year-old central defender Tyler Fredricson received his debut as a starter on the same side of the field as the inexperienced Harry Agram on the left Wing-Back.
The general lack of quality of the game meant that it was difficult for one of the two players to grasp themselves, but both Fredricson and AMASS looked more than convenient in the start of United, whereby the central defender had appeared with a few clever moments than they were challenged.
Amass was a regular threat on the left and instinctively whipped in a number of intelligent crosses that could easily have led to a goal on another day.
Jose Sa was supposed to start this game, but an injury late in warming, Daniel Bentley was only included in all competitions for his second appearance of the season.
United, Bentley, especially early, was unable to ask any real questions. Eriksen’s simple free kick was everything that came in his way in the first half, and gave the 31-year-old a delightful introduction to the game, which he certainly did not need from the point of view of United.
After a tricky backpass from Emmanuel Agbadou, Bentley was sharply from his line to gave Rasmus Hojlund a sight of the goal, but that was about the whole game.
The Wolves striker Matheus Cunha is known this summer as a transfer goal for United. Scouts and fans will therefore have watched with a sharp eye to justify their release clause.
Was it a bad performance by Cunha? Not at all. The wolves to the front were much involved on the left and occasionally caused problems with his movement and his approach, but it was difficult for him to offer much more.
There were some delightful representations of the close control of the Brazilian, and it is not difficult to understand why there is confidence that his skills could copy to a stronger side, but this game is certainly not considered one that affected his transfer fate.
Already in December Ruben Amorim insisted that it was unfair to compare United’s performances in a 3-4-2-1 formation with the wolves in the same setup as Vitor Pereia’s side was supposedly built for it. Amorim asked the doubts to assess United after building experience in the new structure.
United may have mostly had the advantage, but these two sides have largely canceled each other here. There were many efforts of both, but due to the selection in the same formation, there were rarely overcharge or gaps that could either take advantage of a number of players.
It was no surprise to see the decisive goal of a dead ball. Sarabia produced the only real moment of quality throughout the game, and no United formation would have stopped.
