According to The Pitch Prospect, Newcastle are confident they are close to reaching an agreement with Anthony Gordon to sign a new long-term contract.
The Pitch Prospect reported in July that the Magpies were looking to sign Gordon after he almost moved to Liverpool in June.

A £70m deal was virtually agreed between the two clubs as Newcastle desperately tried to sell players to avoid a potential PSR penalty.
However, they were able to retain the former Everton winger by moving Yankuba Minteh and Elliott Anderson to Brighton and Nottingham Forest respectively.
And now Gordon appears ready to extend his stay at Newcastle, where he is currently tied until 2026.
Boss Eddie Howe recently stressed the importance of getting Gordon to serve new terms.
He said last week: “I think future-proofing your players is key to their performance.”
“You don’t want there to be any transfer speculation or potentially shorter contract terms because I think they are distracting and rarely benefit the player or the club.
“So I want the players to always focus on their performance and for outside distractions to be minimal.
“Our best way to do that is to keep them safe and happy, but of course there is a balance because with pay structures and PSR we also can’t be careless in what we do.
“So we have to make these decisions correctly, but obviously getting these players to perform at their best level will have a dramatic impact on our season.”
“I think if there are problems with one or more players, communication and solving all problems is of course very important.”

Gordon has established himself as one of the Premier League’s best wingers since moving from Goodison Park to St James’ Park for £45m in January 2023.
The 23-year-old contributed 12 goals and 11 assists in 48 games across all competitions last season.
He proved to be a great player and scored goals against the division’s “big six” in Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea, Manchester United, Manchester City and Tottenham.
His form earned him a place in England’s Euro 2024 squad under then coach Gareth Southgate.
But much to the fans’ disappointment, he only missed one game in Germany – a one-minute cameo as a substitute in the 0-0 group stage draw with Slovenia.
Since returning to Tyneside after a mysterious summer, Gordon has helped Newcastle finish sixth in the table after five games.
The Magpies are just three points behind leaders Manchester City, who they will welcome to their stadium at kick-off early on Saturday afternoon – live on The Pitch Prospect.
With just one goal to his name from his five top-flight appearances, Gordon has been hoping to score since the 1-1 draw at Bournemouth in Gameweek 2.
