Newcastle United is burdening Anthony Gordon’s red card from the defeat on Sunday against Brighton & Hove Albion, who suspends him for the Carabao Cup final.
Gordon received his marching commands 83 minutes after the final defeat, after he had pushed Brighton Jean Paul van Hecke in the face, with a straight red card for violent behavior that led to a ban on three games.
When the suspension is enforced, Gordon will miss the Premier League games against West Ham United and Brentford on both sides of the Carabao Cup final against Liverpool on March 16.
“If we analyze the incident and believe that there are reasons for the case [an appeal]We will do without hesitation, ”said manager Eddie Howe after the game.
Newcastle could hope that Gordon’s red card was lifted or the punishment was reduced. An one-game ban would leave him free to face Liverpool in the Wembley Stadium, but they would have to convince the football association that referee Anthony Taylor made an error with his assessment of the incident.
Howe insisted that he had not seen a complete repetition of the incident during the survey after the game, but defended the Gordon born in Liverpool in view of the frustration of fans.
“I have to see it, I can’t sit here and give an honest opinion until I did the work that they did and looked at them,” he started. “But when I know the player, I know that no malice is intended there.
“He plays hard – I want him to play hard, I want him to be competitive, but I see no problem there at that moment. I think it would be very frustrated in terms of the context of how it is in general, perhaps a bit frustrated that things are not going in our way, but I would say that this is not a common sight for me when Anthony plays.”
