Pep Guardiola, Manager of Manchester City, apologized to Jack Grialish for not giving the winger enough minutes in the English squad this month.
There was no place for the 29-year-old in Thomas Tuchel’s first English selection, and the new manager admitted that Grialish’s limited role at Club level was behind his omission from the group of players selected for the upcoming qualification of the World Cup.
In fact, Tuchel continued to go on frustrations from Grialish in the direction of Guardiola and remembered a conversation with the winger, in which he discussed his disappointment not to play regularly and build up his sharpness.
Geralish played a total of 605 minutes 16 times this season in the Premier League, of which only 34 came in 2025.
When asked how difficult it is to continue to leave Geralish on the bench, Guardiola admitted: “I’m so sorry for all players who don’t play.
“What can I say? Kova [Mateo Kovacic]Nico [O’Reilly] And James Mcateee. I know that. If we have games every three days, it is easy for the rotation, but now I have to decide every game for the quality you have.
“All managers all over the world have to make the right decision. If you choose 11, you have to believe that you will win. I have never found a manager who chooses a team who believes that it will lose. So I try and if we win, I am right and if we don’t, it could be better.”
When he approaches the last two years of his contract, Grialish is expected to be made available to one of several players for the transfer this summer. The city is preparing to achieve a significant loss in the club record, which they paid for the signing of the wing player in 2021.
