The midfielder of Manchester City, Phil Foden, admitted that he feels a different pressure when representing England.
Foden’s role in the three lions is often the subject of intensive debates, as the fans find a way to help him replicate his club form at an international level. The Premier League player of the season last year only achieved four times for England, the last of which came back in November 2023.
The city favorite started Thomas Tuchel’s first English game, a 2-0 victory against Albania, on the right side of the attack, but did not fell on the attention and then had a debate that is about his role in a team that also includes Jude Bellingham, Cole Palmer and Bukayo Saka at the height of his strength.
In an interview with GQFoden admitted that there is a significant difference between playing for club and the country, which makes things a little more complicated.
“Watch for both and all have so that they do it well, but [there are always] People who will judge you, no matter what happens, “he started.” I have the feeling that there is a lot more pressure in an English shirt to deliver.
“You have another manager to play a different way of playing with players with whom you don’t play regularly, so there are a lot of things when you go to the national team that differ from the club. But I don’t approach any other way. I try to work out the players as much as possible – where you will run, the movement you will do.”
Foden admitted his excitement about a “different atmosphere” under the new boss Tuchel.
“Yes, we are all looking forward to the new chapter and to see what Thomas is about,” he continued. “I’ve never worked with him, so it will be a new experience and I’m curious to see how he is.
“Sometimes when there is a new manager, another atmosphere, so I really hope that it will be good. Many of us had a lot of respect for Gareth [Southgate]For what he did for us as a person. To come to the final and not to be able to win it for him is … it was only to be saved. Seeing Gareth was also a short -cut because he was such a good guy and a good trainer. But that’s football – things happen and people go on. “
In addition to his fights for England, things were not to sail smoothly this season. So far, Foden has seven goals in 24 Premier League games and has reportedly inspired doubts about his club colleague.
“I am not really used to it in this position, so it’s just something that you have to take on the chin,” he considered. “Unfortunately, it’s just one of them.
“We can still end it strongly and simply have to stay positive and trust everything we have done and hold together. They cannot always be at the top and be the best. There are ups and downs in football. It’s just about it [after being knocked out of Europe] – I am not used to having more time in my hands. “
