Player ratings as Barnes brace takes Magpies fourth

Newcastle United roared back into the top 4 of the Premier League after crushing Manchester United in St. James’ Park 4-1.

The Magpies preparation for the game was disrupted by Eddie Howe’s hospital stay on Friday, but his winners of the Carabao Cup proved that they took everything he taught them on board with a swampy exhibition of attacking football.

Sandro Tonali opened the goals in the first half and scored an enormous volley home after a delicious Alexander Isak, but the teams have reached the last 29 games in the last 29 games after Alejandro Garnacho only scored his second goal.

But Garnacho’s precise finish counted nothing when Ruben fell apart Amorim’s team in the second half.

Harvey Barnes restored Jacob Murphy’s shortening lead just four minutes after the second 45 before the former Leicester City wing player fell onto a Noussair Mazraoui to run the race and fire past the Altay Bayindir, who replaced Andre Onana in the goal.

These were Barnes’ seventh and eighth Premier League goals of the season, with England International included its chance of playing regularly due to Anthony Gordon’s latest hip injury.

For United, it got worse for United when Bayindir’s terrible release from Joelinton went on the way of Bruno Guimaraes, and the revered central midfielder pushed the ball home with Aplomb to send the house litter in delirium.

The win of Newcastle -Ihr First Double Over United for 93 years -sends you fourth place over Manchester City in the Premier League table, while United drops a place to 14th after her hit difference rose to -6.
