Manchester City were at their best as they celebrated Erling Haaland’s new signing with a 6-0 win over Ipswich Town at Portman Road.
The champions started the day in eighth place in the Premier League thanks to positive results from Aston Villa and Bournemouth on Saturday.
They were in no mood to mess around from the first whistle in East Anglia and took a three-goal lead at half-time as Phil Foden (2) and Mateo Kovacic won the game away from Ipswich.
Jeremy Doku, Erling Haaland and substitute James McAtee did more damage after the break, reminding those who doubted Pep Guardiola and his players that there is still plenty of quality left in the tank.
Foden and Doku in particular were great, showing great attacking dynamism and fluid movement, and City have now moved into the top four of the Premier League with their win – although they are still 12 points behind leaders Liverpool.
