Player ratings as Johnson double condemns Saints to Championship

Southampton’s descent into the championship was confirmed on Sunday afternoon when they were beaten 3-1 by Tottenham Hotspur.

The opening of Spurs was measured and controlled, whereby their work outside of the Ivan Juric side was restricted to venture into half of the hosts.

The early pressure was threatening, and Spurs soon opened the goals of Brennan Johnson. The Welsh ended with his left foot of Djed Spences Kreuz. Poseteclous side refused to subsequently let it up, and they scored a second before the half-time interval after Lucas Bergvall excluded his goal after a long Var check.

Johnson was in doubles for the hosts, and his clever finish up close let the visitors started with a mountain in the second half. Southampton’s best period of the competition came after the restart when they enjoyed the lion’s share of property, but only a few came.

The competition drifted, but there were gates at both ends to complete the competition. A Mateus Fernandes strike in the last minute of the 90 offered the saints a glimmer of hope before a Mathy’s Tel -penalty recently secured the points.
