Aston Villa is in the fifth round of the FA Cup after goals from Jacob Ramsey and Morgan Rogers scored a narrow 2-1 win against Tottenham Hotspur.
The hosts, who impressed so often in front of their own followers, immediately took the lead when Ramsey’s angled shot inexplicably slipped through the grip of Antonin Kinsky, who should really have saved it with ease.
The 21-year-old Tschecher then allowed himself a series of money savings, but his mistake made Tottenham in a game that Poseteclou could really have won after the middle of the week in Liverpool in the Carabao Cup.
The impressive Leon Bailey was rejected in the first quarter of an hour from Kinsky’s right hand, with Ramsey and Donyell painting different efforts far and over fire via the six-yard box from teenager Mikey Moore.
At the other end, the villa knocked on the door – Bailey, Rogers, Ramsey and Malen all made a significant threat to Spurs’ backline – but despite the break, they could not snap a second.
After more Villa printing, in which Kinsky made an excellent rescue game to refuse Ramsey, doubled her lead through the rising Rogers. At the right time, he directed the ball into the roof of the network after Pedro Porro was unable to clarify Malen’s reduction over the goal line.
Marcus Rashford and Marco Asensio both came to their villa debut and replaced Bailey and Paint, but the game was about the impressive performance of Rogers, who must certainly be on the radar of the English manager Thomas Tuchel.
Tottenham was in the last moments as Mathys Tel. He made his first start for the club and led Dejan Kulusevski’s cross into the outermost lower corner, but they didn’t have enough in the tank to prevent a second outcome from a house cup competition in four Days – The Europa League is today the only available trophy that is becoming increasingly disappointing for the North Londoners.
