Player ratings as unlikely goalscorers underpin much-needed Blues win

Chelsea were the first to claim their overdue claim Premier League Win of the year 2025 on Monday evening, successfully prevailing against a Wolverhampton Wanderers side that is hopeless at defending set pieces.

Enzo Maresca had not seen his team emerge victorious in a league since a narrow win over Brentford on December 15, more than a month earlier, and had five games against Everton, Fulham, Ipswich Town, Crystal Palace etc. Bournemouth did not achieve maximum points.

The Blues actually took the lead in this game, Tosin Adarabioyo’s first league goal as a Chelsea player with a helping hand from VAR confirming the centre-back onside after the goal was initially ruled out.

The ever-up-and-down Robert Sanchez fumbled what should have been an easy catch from a corner deep in first-half stoppage time, giving Wolves a lifeline when Matt Doherty slotted in. But Marc Cucurella’s unorthodox close-range finish on his 100th Premier League appearance restored Chelsea’s lead after the hour and they never looked back from then on.

Noni Madueke scored for the fourth time this season against Wolves after scoring a hat-trick in the second leg, hard defending a header from the recalled Trevoh Chalobah. Nicolas Jackson also had the ball in the net late on, only to see an offside flag correctly raised.
