England will compete in Portimao in Portimao on Friday evening in the UEFA Nations League 2025 group stage in Portugal.
It will be the first meeting between the two sides since their destiny friendliness in July 2023, a match that served as a World Championship for both teams. Portugal made his debut for the World Cup this summer and took third place in his group behind the USA and the Netherlands and just missed a place in the KO phase.
Last year’s Nations League campaign was a challenge for both teams. England finished second in his group behind the Netherlands, did not have to qualify for the final and missed the Olympic qualification, while Portugal had to struggle in a hard group and ended the ground.
With both sides that want to start the new campaign on the front foot, England will try to claim the expected dominance, while Portugal will hope that the home advantage can help them cause a surprise.
Here is 90 minutes Guide to the Clash of the Nations League on Friday.

Benfica defender Lucia Alves is on the side with a knee injury with the national team after a few months. She returned to the campaign for her club in December and has 11 games in front of the belt before the collision on Friday.
Elsewhere, Kika Nazareth from Barcelona and Diana Silva from Sporting CP are located for their upcoming games in the Francisco Neto squad. Atletico Madrids Tatiana Pinto and goalkeeper Ines Pereira also made the cut.
Portugal predicted line -up against England (3-4-3): Pereira; Gomes, C. Costa, Seica; Alves, Jacinto, Pinto, Marchao; D. Silva, Nazareth, Capeta.
The Chelsea-duo Niamh Charles and Lauren James return to the squad, while the striker of Brighton Nikita Parris has received their first assignment since November 2022. Ella Toone also returns after missing the last camp, while young people Ruby Mace and Laura Blindkilde have kept their places.
England is without several important players, with Georgia Stanway, Lauren Hanf and Alex Greenwood fail due to injuries. Stanway’s knee injury raises concerns about their availability for Euro 2025 this summer and adds Wiegman’s growing selection headache.
Further disorders came at the beginning of this week when Lotte Wubben-Moy and Beth Mead retired from the squad before the team traveled to Portugal. The Lucy Parker from Aston Villa and Chloe Kelly von Arsenal were appointed as a replacement after missing the original cut.
England predicted the line-up against Portugal (4-2-3-1): Earps; Bronze, Williamson, Bright, Charles; Walsh, toone; Naz, Clinton, James; Russo.
England goes into this game as a clear favorite, since her family tree on the international stage still found his feet at this level compared to a Portuguese side. The lion’s injury problems, in particular the absence of Stanway in midfield, could make this a more difficult test than expected.
Portugal showed his defensive resistance in the target without a World Cup, and England has to be in possession of it to reduce it. If Wiegman’s team can settle into a rhythm, their quality of attack should be enough to secure a victory and build up an urgently needed dynamic.
With larger tests in the group, this is a game that England cannot afford to slip. It may not be free scoring, but you should have just enough to take all three points.
