What Maresca said about Sterling last summer
“I prefer to be honest with the players. Those who are not involved will not be involved and they will not get minutes if they stay.
“I don’t know what happens when the window closes when you are still here. Those who get minutes are those of whom I think you can help us.
“Raheem is a fantastic guy who has trained very well. Every manager has a different idea and he is the kind of winger I don’t like.
“History and numbers speak for Raheem. He knows exactly what he has to do.
“The rest trains apart, they won’t get minutes. I was clear and honest with them.”
Chelsea signed Jamie Gitten from Borussia Dortmund for £ 55 million at the beginning of the month.
