Real Madrid legend confirms retirement from professional football

The former left -back from Real Madrid, Marcelo, has announced his resignation from professional football.

The 36-year-old acquired a reputation with Madrid as one of the greatest left-backs of all times during his 15-year spell with Madrid when the La league giants recruited him from fluminense.

During his time in Spain, Marcelo appeared enormous 546 appearances for the club in all competitions and has been the first foreign captain of the association for over 100 years when he won enough trophies to become Madrid’s most successful player of all time.

Marcelo left Madrid in 2022 with no less than 25 trophies in his cabinet -six Laliga titles, five master leagues, two copas del Rey, five Spanish supercopas, three UEFA super cups and four club world championships.

“At the age of 18, Real Madrid knocked my door and I came here,” said Marcelo in a video on social media. “Now I can proudly say that I’m true Madrileno. Here, next to my wife, I built a family.

“16 seasons, 25 titles, five Champions leagues, one of the captains and so many magical nights in Bernabeu. What a trip!

“My journey as a player ends here, but I still have so much to give football. Thank you for everything.”

After leaving Marcelo Madrid in 2022, he brought his talents to the Greek side of Olympiacos, but he would take less than a year before returning his emotional return to the side of young people, where he won the Club the Copa Liberadores before left in November 2024.
