The director of Bayer Leverkusen, Simon Rolfes, supported the club to get the services of manager Xabi Alonso and another target from Real Madrid, midfielder Florian Wirtz, about the end of this season.
Alonso was a temporary goal for Madrid last season when he inspired Leverkusen’s unlikely title Triumph, but her plan was always to land his signature either in 2025 or 2026, while reports claimed the next challenge.
Madrid observes a double strike that would bring both Alonso and Wirtz to Spain, but Rolfes has warned the La Liga side that Leverkusen is ready to drive a fight.
“Both are under contract and feel very comfortable,” said Rolfes.
“Xabi knows that he has a team nearby that fits his ambition. And he has the feeling that he is the important part of what we try to do.”
Much could depend on the future of the current Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti. The Italian’s contract expired in 2026 and he publicly stated the willingness to continue his career at Los Blancos, although the recent overwhelming form of the team triggered suggestions that he could relieve from his duties before this summer.
In the background, AS State Roma increase their attempts to stop Ancelotti this summer. The series -a team, on which he spent eight years of his career as a player, should personally turn to convince Ancelotti to return as a manager.
Ancelotti previously admitted that one day he would “love” Roma, but recently a plan to retire when his magic with Madrid ends.
“I have a great relationship with Roma, very good memories, but it is still a long way to say,” said Ancelotti in December. “At the moment I’m fine and I am not thinking of my future. I still have a two -year contract, but contracts can be broken or expanded.”
