The second semi-final of the Supercopa de Espana takes place on Thursday evening when Real Madrid face Mallorca for a place against Barcelona in the final to win.
Madrid are no strangers to the competition, having competed every year since introducing a four-team format in 2020. They are also the current defending champions and have lifted the trophy 13 times – one less than record winners Barcelona.
Mallorca made it this year thanks to their Copa del Rey final defeat to Athletic Club on penalties. They have only taken part in this competition three times and this is their first since 2003, having previously won it in 1998.
Jagoba Arrasate has built on the foundation laid by Javier Aguirre in his first season at the helm. Mallorca are currently sixth in La Liga and beat Madrid to a 1-1 draw on the opening weekend of the season.
However, the Bermellones still have a lot to do if they want to reach Sunday’s final against a strong Madrid side. Carlo Ancelotti’s defending La Liga champions moved to the top of the table after four games unbeaten and claimed a Copa victory against Minera on Monday.
Here is 90 minutes Guide to the Supercup semi-finals on Thursday.

It’s been a busy start to the new year for the La Liga champions, but Ancelotti was able to rotate his squad for Monday night’s Copa del Rey triumph.
The powerful batsmen will return to the squad in Saudi Arabia as Madrid go in search of another title. Kylian Mbappe, Antonio Rüdiger, Aurelien Tchouameni and Thibaut Courtois are among the players who have to be recalled.
Ancelotti will also have Vinicius Junior available on Thursday despite his sending off against Valencia. The Brazilian will serve his ban in La Liga.
Los Blancos will be without long-term absentees Dani Carvajal and Eder Militao, but will soon benefit from the return of David Alaba from a torn cruciate ligament. The Austrian has been out for over a year.
Real Madrid’s expected line-up against Mallorca (4-2-3-1): Courtois; Vazquez, Tchouameni, Rüdiger, Mendy; Valverde, Camavinga; Rodrygo, Bellingham, Vinicius; Mbappe.
Samu Costa has missed Mallorca’s last three games through injury but has traveled with the team to the Middle East and appeared to be fighting for his first minutes of action in a month on Thursday.
Antonio Raillo and Antonio Sanchez will both undergo late fitness tests, but neither player is expected to start.
Jagoba Arrasate made a big change after Friday’s Copa del Rey defeat and will return to a more familiar lineup in Jeddah.
Expected lineup of Mallorca against Real Madrid (4-4-2): Gripping; Mafeo, Valjent, Copete, Mojica; Asano, Morlanes, Mascarell, Darder; Larin, Muriqi.
Mallorca may not be the most adventurous team, but they are well-coordinated and will certainly be a nuisance on Thursday.
However, Madrid go into the game in good form and are less likely to get out of trouble – as was the case on the opening weekend. Unlike their opponents, they are used to lengthy ventures into the Middle East, but may have to be patient before eventually succeeding.
