Renato Sanches makes shock loan away from Paris Saint-Germain to join ex-Man United and Liverpool players


Renato Sanches has joined together with two forgotten Premier League Wonderkids when he joined the seventh club of his career.

The Portuguese completed a loan transfer to Panathinaikos in Greece from Paris Saint-Germain six days after his 28th birthday.

Sanches returned to PSG this summer after spending last season in Benfica, the club in which he came through the ranks as a teenager.

His temporary second stay in Benfica was expanded to report the World Cup Club, with the Sanches scored a goal in three appearances.

An injury, however, decided him from the 4-1 defeat against the later master Chelsea in the past 16 years.

It saves Sancheen from the review of his most memorable moment in English football, which came on the Stamford Bridge in 2017.

Benfica decided not to activate his purchase option, and Sanches has now also joined Panathinaikos in his parents’ club without a future.

The midfielder has reunited himself with manager Rui Vitoria, who promoted him to the senior team from Benficas B as an 18-year-old.

The Portugal International quickly earned its first Wunderkid day under Vitoria, which was cemented by its participation in Euro 2016.

Sanches claimed the Golden Boy Award as part of Cristiano Ronaldo’s team, which won in the euro in 2016 and won a step to Bayern Munich.

A bad form brought him into harmony in the club and it was considered a massive coup when Swansea borrowed him.

What happened to Renato Sanches?

His Premier League loan was defined by a notorious moment when he handed over the ball against Chelsea to an advertising board.

Sanches revitalized his career at Lille in France and proved to be an essential part of the team that defeated PSG to claim the title Ligue 1 in 2021.

The following year he went to Paris, but similar problems with fitness and shape that were resumed as a starter in his only season.

In the 2023/24 campaign, Limited Sanchen limited to 12 appearances in the Roma, with one of Jose Mourinho being replaced by Jose Mourinho just 18 minutes after pulling.

A return to his youth club followed last year, where he was classified both as Benfica and as the highest paid player by Liga Portugal.

For whom is Renato Sanchien playing now?

His high wages meant that it was always unlikely that his loan would be made permanently, and he was sent back to PSG after 21 appearances.

Sanches, whose contract runs until 2027, was only integrated in Luis Enrique this summer.

The 32-cap international will now try his luck in the Greek Super League as a eighth signing of the Shamrock.

Panathinaikos already has a number of former Premier League Wonderkids with the ex-Liverpool star Pedro Chirivella in their books.

Last year Facundo Pellistri ended his four -year spell in Manchester United to change the Olympic Stadium in Athens.

Panathinaikos finished second in the Greek Super League last season and was expelled from the conference league in the last 16.

The club still has the opportunity to play football in Europa League this season if they come through the second floor of their playoff with a Turkish team Samsunspor after winning the first meeting with 2-1.
