Barcelona Robert Lewandowski’s striker insists that there was no “difference” in his production a few years ago, although he approached his 37th birthday and repeated the likelihood of staying in the club this summer.
Lewandowski scored his 37th and 38th goals of the season when Barcelona won 4-1 against the regional neighbors Girona. Before the kick -off, it was his best season since he came to the club in 2022, and he has been able to reach the campaign at 50 in the last two months.
However, rumors have triggered questions about his longevity that Barcelona can do the connections to Lewandowski in favor of a younger striker this summer. Alexander Isak from Newcastle United as a possible goal.
“A lot of people talk about my age, but I know that I work as hard as always,” Lewandowski told reporters. “I want to play on the top level for a few more years. I feel very good physically.
“There is no difference between a few years ago and now with regard to my statistics.”
In Lewandowski’s last season in Bayern Munich, he scored 50 times in 46 games in all competitions. He had reached 55 in 2019/20, in the season in which he had controversially refused a balloon d’Or after the award was canceled due to the Covid 19 crisis, even if football was still played. But most of his other seasons with Bavaria scored the goal between 40 and 48.
Lewandowski is part of a generation of players who benefit from the improvement of sports science practices and enable them to expand careers beyond the previously typical retirement age of 35 years.
“For me, the most important thing I have to do with the team is. I know that I will help my team when I scored two goals,” said the Poland legend.
“For me as a striker, the most important thing is to have more confidence. When I’m in the box or nearby, I know that I have the goal in my head when the ball comes to me.”
Lewandowski has another season after the current contract he signed in 2022. Agent Pini Zahavi recently also found the player’s wish to stay beyond the summer at Barcelona.
