Newcastle have been told to target Scott McTominay if the midfielder wants to return to the Premier League.
McTominay’s career has exploded since joining Napoli in 2024.

The 29-year-old was named Serie A Player of the Year en route to the league title.
He has more than justified the £25.7m transfer fee that Napoli paid to Manchester United just 18 months ago.
A return to the Premier League is always discussed and The Pitch Prospect’s YouTube show Inside The Toon says he is exactly the profile of player Newcastle should be looking for.
Sun sports editor and Newcastle fan Shaun Custis said: “Isn’t that the kind of player we should be targeting? Because he’s unlikely to go to Arsenal or Man City.”
“He would probably be keen for another crack at the Premier League and it feels like he could be on our radar.”
As for the role he could play, Custis said: “He’s probably a support striker. If you play him in midfield, he’s an emerging midfielder.”
What did McTominay say?
McTominay had been at Manchester United since he was five years old before breaking into the first team.
The Scotland international played 255 times for the club before moving to Italy.
He spoke about how much he loved life in Europe, saying in an interview last year: “The people in Naples are incredible, they are so passionate and everywhere you go there are people who say ‘Forza Napoli’ and want to talk to you and have a conversation and that inspires you every time you go on the pitch because it’s important to them.
“It’s different there, a completely different way of life – the way you eat, the way you live and so on. It gives you more mental strength. I’ve always lived very close to my mother, so I could leave whenever I wanted.

“Now that I live 1,500 miles away I can’t just go home to see my mother, my family, my sister and my children, so it’s different, but in life sometimes you have to step out of your comfort zone and I’ve always been proud of that.
“I would never want to be in my comfort zone, and if I can go somewhere and establish myself and do well, why not? Who’s going to stop me?”
Scott McTominay and the World Cup
McTominay will be able to showcase his talents on the world stage this summer after playing a crucial role in Scotland’s qualification for the 2026 World Cup.
He etched himself into Scottish folklore with a stunning overhead kick in a 4-2 win over Denmark, securing a place at tournaments in the USA, Canada and Mexico.
McTominay said: “I think well over 500.
“I’m not kidding. I still get goosebumps when I think about it.

“I attach great importance to showing and feeling something on the bus before the games.
“And I’m not going to sit here and say I’ve achieved anything like that, but I’ve achieved a pretty good goal.
“And then Andy Robertson said a nice word to me before we played the game, about the stage we’re on and that’s where great players come from and do their best.
“And I thought about it and thought, you know what, why can’t I be one of them?
“Why can’t that be what fuels my fire in games like this? And that’s what you live for.”
Scotland have been drawn for the World Cup in a group with Brazil, Morocco and Haiti.
