The Chelsea manager Sonia Bombastor celebrated her team’s profit mentality after her decisive victory of the Super League (WSL) for women against Leicester City on Wednesday evening.
The league leaders risked the points of the points after being held in Brighton & Hove Albion at the weekend. However, the Bombastor team has proven why they will be seen as one of the best teams in Europe this season because they have broken down the foxes in Kingsmeadow.
It took less than ten minutes for the hosts to open the goal when Catarina Macario fired them in front before Aggie Beever-Jones added a second shortly after the break. Yuka Momiki scored a goal for the visitors just a few moments later, but Erin Cuthbert achieved the 3-1 result without doubt.
Chelsea has now put eight points between himself and Marc Skinner’s Manchester United in second place, although he played more than her closest challengers. United has the opportunity to reduce the gap to five points if you visit Liverpool on March 14th.
After the full -time pipe, Bombastor admitted that its players were frustrated against Brighton due to the result of the weekend, and praised their mentality so positively.
“After they had set points in the last game, everyone was all frustrated,” the manager told the media after the game. “We are all competitors and we hate to fall points.
“This is the winning mentality in Chelsea. We had a day when we were frustrated and then we had to jump back because it was a quick turn for the game tonight, and that was perhaps the best that could happen to us.
“From this season and from last season Chelsea has always shown that they react. I expected that I could see that from my players after we lowered points on Sunday.”
A big boost for Chelsea on Wednesday evening was the return of the etc. striker Mia Fishel. The 23-year-old was a little more than a year with an ACL injury, but was back in a matchday squad for the first time, even though she has not yet received minutes on the field.
Bombastor said about Fishel’s return and said: “Mia in the squad was really positive news. She is very close to the level of competition. It is still part of the process, but I think the game was not appropriate for her tonight to get in.
“It will come soon and that is really good for us to have it. It is in a good place, but when we return from an ACL, you always have to go step by step, build your fitness and self -confidence.
“Mia is a really good player. She works hard for the team. I haven’t seen her [play] But as a manager and play with me, but after what I see in training sessions, she has the right mentality and works really hard. “
The manager has also introduced short updates to Guro Riding and Sam Kerr, who are getting closer to fitness. Riding returned with a back injury after the international break and missed the last two WSL games from Chelsea, although Bombastor expects it to become available sooner than later.
Kerr, like Fishel, has been out of the game with an ACL injury for more than a year, but still has to be seen in a Matchday squad. Bombastor confirmed that the Australia international is doing well and is not afraid to go into duels during the training sessions, but it is still protected in this phase.
