Southampton keen on second transfer reunion with former striker after Adam Lallana talks

Southampton are interested in signing former player Danny Ings, who could return to the club alongside Adam Lallana.

Saints secured promotion to the Premier League with a 1-0 win over Leeds United in the Championship play-off final on Sunday, with victory secured by a goal from Adam Armstrong, who celebrated a little prematurely.

And they are keen to move quickly in the transfer window, having already confirmed a top-flight deal, and are interested in signing Ings from West Ham.

The striker has scored just three Premier League goals in the last two seasons and has struggled to get playing time at the London Stadium.

However, during his three years at Southampton from 2018 to 2021, Ings scored 41 goals in the top division.

In addition to West Ham and Southampton, the Englishman also played for Burnley, Liverpool and Aston Villa.

The 31-year-old may not be the only former Saints player to make a great return to the south coast.

The Pitch Prospect reported on Monday that former captain Lallana is in talks about a move back to St Mary’s as he prepares to leave Brighton this summer.

The former Liverpool star graduated from Southampton’s academy and spent a total of 14 years at the club before signing for Liverpool in 2014.

This is part of a move to bring some Premier League sense into the team after returning to the top flight straight away.

Lallana is also in talks about a return to Southampton

Lallana is also in talks about a return to Southampton.

Southampton were relegated last year with a predominantly young team and were also unable to keep up in the goal-scoring department, scoring just 36 goals, the second lowest total of the season.

The return of crowd favourites Ings and Lallana would add additional experience to Russell Martin’s team, which has already earned a reputation as a forward-looking team.

Only Leicester and Ipswich have scored more goals than the Saints in the Championship this season, but after conceding 63 goals they may need to strengthen their defence.

The three teams mentioned above will play in the Premier League next season after Leicester and Ipswich finished first and second respectively in League Two.
