Rodrigo Bentancur will follow standard concussion protocol before returning to the Tottenham Hotspur squad, manager Ange Postecoglou confirmed.
The Uruguayan international was carried off the pitch in the early stages of the 1-0 win after lying motionless on the ground following a diving header. Later replays appeared to show that Bentancur hit his head on the pitch as he landed.
Fans immediately became worried about Bentancur, but the midfielder soon got worried, insisting that everything was fine in a social media post from the hospital.
Postecoglou confirmed in his press conference on Friday that Bentancur has been diagnosed with a simple concussion and will therefore be out for two weeks due to protocol.
“Good news, fortunately,” Postecoglou began. “He was obviously in hospital doing all the tests to make sure everything was OK. He’s back home and doing well.”
“He feels good. We will of course now adhere to the protocols. I think it’s a few weeks of just making sure everything is okay. But luckily it looks like a concussion, but nothing more.”
“It was shocking, you especially saw Pedro [Porro]He was the first one there and knew it was a stressful situation. I thought the guys handled it well and our medical team handled it well and, like I said, thankfully everything was fine.”
After a two-week break, Bentancur will miss the FA Cup tie against Tamworth on Sunday and the north London derby against Arsenal three days later. His latest absence is likely to come the following weekend at Everton, before Spurs potentially return in the Europa League against Hoffenheim on Thursday, January 23.
