Transfer notebook: Eze wanted by two English giants, Arsenal’s Sterling wage bargain revealed, Newcastle sweat over futures of two key players

Crystal Palace are preparing for a battle to keep hold of top English player Eberechi Eze this summer.

Palace owner Steve Parish has publicly admitted that he was shocked by the lack of interest in Eze during the transfer window.

There were no bids for Eze this summer, but next summer things will look different.

Eze impressed as an effective substitute during England’s run to the 2024 European Championship final and, despite numerous clubs expressing interest, there have been no concrete offers for the 26-year-old.

However, this is likely to change at the end of the season, as Manchester United and Tottenham are among the clubs that will want to keep a close eye on Eze over the course of the season.

Manchester City have also been interested in Eze for a long time, although their main target seems to be the German duo Florian Wirtz and Jamal Musiala, with a double Bundesliga raid certainly possible.

Eze is said to have a £68 million release clause that comes into effect at the end of the season.

Arsenal win gold with Sterling deal

Feuding Chelsea owners Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali will watch from behind the sofa when Raheem Sterling makes his Arsenal debut in the north London derby on Sunday.

Sterling, Boehly’s first signing as interim sporting director, left the London club in the final hours of transfer deadline day.

Initial indications suggested that Arsenal and Chelsea would share the English star’s weekly salary of £325,000 for the duration of his one-year loan.

However, sources familiar with the deal have since confirmed to The Pitch Prospect that Arsenal are only paying 30 percent, leaving Chelsea to pay the remaining £12 million per year. The move is believed to be due to Eghbali.

Arsenal will be laughing their way to the bench if Sterling gets anywhere near his peak form.

The 29-year-old is determined to prove he can still score at the highest level after his nightmare at Stamford Bridge, where he was ruled out just two years after his £47.5million move from Man City.

Mitchell is under pressure

It has been a turbulent start to life for Paul Mitchell as Newcastle’s new sporting director, who is now under pressure to convince two big stars to unite their futures
to St. James’ Park.

Mitchell has come under fire from fans after failing to secure the signing of Crystal Palace and England defender Marc Guehi.

Meanwhile, his disparaging comments about the club’s previous transfer dealings angered both his predecessor Dan Ashworth and current manager Eddie Howe.

Mitchell has the chance to win back the fans’ favour by ensuring the Magpies can keep hold of their star striker Alexander Isak and English winger Anthony Gordon.

The Pitch Prospect reported in April that Newcastle had offered Isak a pay rise to fend off interest from clubs such as Arsenal, but the deal had not yet been signed.

Meanwhile, Liverpool remain keen on Gordon after the club came close to signing the Everton youth player for £70 million in June.

Uncertain future

Ben Chilwell and Sergio Reguilon are among the players who will have to wait and see whether they will be allowed to play in the Premier League in the first half of the season.

After the transfer window closes, clubs have until Friday to announce their 25-man squads. Any player over 21 who is not included will have to wait until January to re-register.

Both Chilwell and Reguilon have already been left out of Chelsea and Tottenham’s squads for their upcoming European campaigns, respectively, so their prospects of making the cut are bleak.

Their best hope could be a move to Turkey, where the transfer window remains open until the middle of next week and Reguilon is playing at Tottenham under Fenerbahce head coach Jose Mourinho.
