Transfer notebook: Newcastle eye Michael Olise alternative, Jadon Sancho skips Man United duty, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg attracts European interest

Newcastle are interested in signing Leeds winger Crysencio Summerville, The Pitch Prospect has learned.

The Magpies are considering alternatives after losing out to Bayern Munich in the battle for Crystal Palace’s Michael Olise.

Manager Eddie Howe is a big admirer of Summerville, who is likely to leave Elland Road after Leeds lost the Championship play-off final to Southampton at Wembley.

Newcastle could fund Summerville’s transfer by selling £25million signing Miguel Almiron, who is attracting new interest from Saudi Arabia.

Sancho remains in United limbo

Jadon Sancho was conspicuous by his absence when Manchester United returned to the start of pre-season training on Monday.

Sancho is expected to take up his duties after spending the second half of last season on loan at his former club Borussia Dortmund following his public falling out with United head coach Erik ten Hag.

However, the former England winger was nowhere to be seen in the social media pictures of stars such as Marcus Rashford, Casemiro and Mason Mount that United released on his first day in charge.

While Mason Greenwood, who was also dropped, was in Carrington with his representatives to plan a transfer, club sources are keeping quiet about Sancho’s training status.

But with Ten Hag having signed a contract extension and no sign of the pair settling their differences, it is highly unlikely that the £73million man has a future at Old Trafford, with Juventus one of the clubs looking to offer him a way out.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is the latest Premier League player on Borussia Dortmund’s radar.

The 28-year-old Hojbjerg is in the final year of his contract with Tottenham and is allowed to leave the club if he receives a suitable offer.

After Denmark’s impressive performance in the round of 16 of the European Championship, Dortmund are looking to bring former Bayern Munich youth player Hojbjerg, who only played a few times under Ange Postecoglou last season, back to the Bundesliga.

The Champions League finalists are also actively pushing for the signing of German international Pascal Gross from Brighton, although The Pitch Prospect understands that the Seagulls would be reluctant to sell.

Hojbjerg is also said to be on Atletico Madrid’s list as a cheaper alternative to Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher.

English top player Gallagher is aware of Atletico’s interest but is in no hurry to decide on his future.

Ings wants to stay and fight for his place at West Ham.

West Ham face an uphill battle to get rid of unwanted striker Danny Ings.

The Hammers are keen to sell Ings to make room on their payroll for a new number 9, with Villarreal’s former Crystal Palace player Alexander Sorloth a possible option.

However, Ings’ earnings of around £120,000 per week are proving to be a major obstacle to his departure, although it is believed that the former Liverpool and Aston Villa star is keen to stay and fight for his place.

Southampton are said to be interested in Ings, but would not pay anywhere near his salary at the Hammers and sources at St. Mary’s have distanced themselves from a transfer of their former frontman.
