Alexander-Arnold, now 26, has been heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid, where his England teammate and close friend Jude Bellingham plays.

Los Blancos are looking for a new right-back. The first choice is Dani Caravajal, who is currently out with an anterior cruciate ligament injury.

But with Alexander-Arnold’s contract expiring and doubts surrounding his future, he insists fans will not hear details of the talks any time soon.

Nonetheless, it will give fans hope that the hometown boy even mentions talk of a possible extension and that the Scouse star could stay.

In an interview with Sky Sports, he said: “I’ve been at the club for 20 years now and have signed four or five contract extensions… and none of them have been made public.”

“It won’t be this one either.”

Although his future is currently uncertain, the England international admitted he is enjoying playing under new manager Arne Slot since taking Jurgen Klopp’s place in the Liverpool dugout.

The defender said: “From the first time I met him I knew I would enjoy playing under him and being a part of it.”

“I feel like I’m doing better and I’m going to improve.

“I could tell he was obsessed with football and the level of detail was incredible.”

Trent has become a key figure in Liverpool since his debut in 2016.

Slot led Liverpool to the top of the Premier League and the new-look Champions League table in his first season as manager.

He had big jobs to do after replacing Klopp, who stepped down as Reds boss at the end of last season after eight years.

Alexander-Arnold has played 18 games this season and has picked up four assists in all competitions during that time.

He suffered a hamstring injury in November but has since recovered and proven to be an important member of Liverpool’s first team, as well as his leadership role as the club’s vice-captain.

Slot’s other two stars, Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk, are also out of contract at the end of the season and their futures are also unclear.

All three players won the Champions League in 2019 and the Premier League in 2020 under Klopp.

Liverpool face Fulham at home on Saturday afternoon looking to extend their lead at the top of the league after their Merseyside derby against Everton was postponed last week.
