Valencia vs Barcelona: Preview, predictions and lineups

Barcelona will take Valencia in the Copa del Rey quarter-finals on Thursday evening.

The Catalan outfit has not won the competition since 2020/21 and chases its second cutlery under Hansi -Flick. After the Catalan giants against Valencia were beaten 7-1 during their meeting of La Liga, they will be full of trust for the upcoming duel if they are looking for a safe pass to the last four.

Although Barcelona sounded the strange Rocky patch during the Flick -ära, he is nine games without defeat, secured in the Champions League in the past 16 years and moves from the title rival Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid in the league.

However, Valencia was not so happy this season. Los Che fights a relegation battle in La Liga after a dark start to the campaign under Ruben Baraja. The 41-year-old won four of his seven responsible games, with the only defeat coming to Barcelona.

Here is 90 minutes Guide to Barca’s cup trip.

Carlos Corberan

Thierry Correia is the only guaranteed absence of Valencia because he is out of the rest of the campaign with an ACL tear. There are also doubts about Star strikers Hugo Duro and defender Dimitri Foulquier, who both have missed the latest training sessions.

However, Corberan should be able to rely on Javi Guerra, Diego Lopez and Enzo Barrenechea, despite concerns about their fitness levels after the weekend victory against Celta Vigo.

Corberan was able to lock the deadline day in his squad after the wing player was borrowed from Porto, but Giorgi Mamardashvili in Liverpool was replaced by Dimitrievski by the Cup goalkeeper.

Valencia predicted the line-up against Barcelona (4-2-3-1): Dimitrievski; Aarons, Tarrega, Mosquera, Gaya; Guerra, Pepelu; Lopez, Almeida, Rioja; Sadiq.

Barcelona remains without the quartet of Dani Olmo, Marc-Andre Ter Stegen, Andreas Christensen and Marc Bernal, while Gavi is undoubtedly for the game on Thursday after suffering a bad head injury during the weekend victory against Alaves.

The Spaniard has trained from the rest of his teammates in the last few days and it is unlikely that it will be risked against Valencia, even if it is suitable.

Elbe elsewhere, Flick could make several changes to its line -up, whereby the opportunities may be handed over peripheral figures. Wojciech Szczesny will probably begin between the sticks, with the head of Barcelona confirming that the Poland is internationally his first choice.

Barcelona predicted the line-up against Valencia (4-2-3-1): Szczesny; Counds, Garcia, Comatarsi, Balde; Casado, de Jong; Yamal, Lopez, Raphinha; Lewandowski.

Corberan has improved Valencia, but they received an almighty reality check in their last seven goals through Barcelona. While the goal line may not be quite as emphatic on this occasion, the Catalan side should go out of comfortable winners – especially if the hosts make changes to their XI.

Barcelona may have an eye on the weekend trip to Seville, but her directional qualification for the Champions League Last 16 means that February should not be too busy. Flick will start a strong side in Valencia and probably set up his feared triumvirate by Lamin Yamal, Raphinha and Robert Lewandowski.

Prediction: Valencia 1-4 Barcelona
