Virgil van Dijk supported his teammates in Liverpool to withstand the pressure that is associated with the pace in a title race of the Premier League.
The Reds currently have a lead of seven points compared to the second-placed Arsenal with 13 games-a guided tour that they had secured after they had held up on a nervous 2-1 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers at the weekend.
While van Dijk accepted the increasing fear to which the last minute compensation against Everton has definitely contributed, it is a natural consequence to be at the front, he assured the fans that the squad was strong enough to do the work .
“We are all people and I completely understand that fear or nervousness can occur,” he considered. “I said it weeks ago we just have to buckle up, enjoy the trip. There will be many twists.
“If you are not ready for it, it will be a few difficult months for you, but I have the feeling that we as a team are ready. We will give everything we have and we will see in 13 games that’s enough. “
Van Dijk was part of the team who is ahead at the 2019/20 title race, but 12 months after Liverpool gave a significant lead for Manchester City to secure the trophy.
With more experience of these situations than most in the squad, van Dijk offered his teammates a few words of wisdom.
“I don’t know how others would think, I can only say what I think and what I tell the boys that I went through this whole situation and also went back twice,” he said. “We all have to invest our energy in ourselves and that is difficult enough – they saw how wolves made it difficult for us and will be very difficult again on Wednesday.
“If you concentrate on other things or look at others, it will only go back, so let’s go on. Certain players in our team may see other teams, but it will not help you. I think that was too Mentality in the season we won: we continued, continued and found a way.
