Virgil van Dijk has revealed that Liverpool have not yet offered him a new contract, even though his existing deal expires at the end of the 2024/25 season.
The Reds captain said his situation had not changed following his club’s 4-1 win over Sevilla at Anfield at the weekend.

Van Dijk is one of three key Liverpool players, along with Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mohamed Salah, whose future is still uncertain.
“There is no change at the moment,” said Van Dijk.
Liverpool have not yet signed any players in the summer transfer window under new head coach Arne Slot, but Van Dijk is confident that reinforcements will arrive in due course.
“Obviously I think depending on how long the season is going to last we should sign some players but I think they are working on it behind the scenes and I have complete confidence and trust in the club that they will do the right thing for us and put together the best possible squad so that we can compete in all the competitions we are in,” he said.
“That’s the main thing I’m focused on: having confidence, and then we’ll see what happens. I think they’re working very hard behind the scenes, we’ll see what comes out of it.”
Van Dijk moved from Southampton to Liverpool in January 2018 for a then world record transfer fee of £75 million.
The Reds captain made a lightning start on his debut that same month, appearing in the third round of the FA Cup and scoring the winning goal against rivals Everton.
With his goal, he became the first player since Bill White in 1901 to score on his debut in the Merseyside derby.
This goal made him a fan favourite and he has been a fixture in Liverpool ever since, winning the Champions League and the Premier League with them.
Van Dijk was given the captain’s armband following the departure of Jordan Henderson in 2023.

Nevertheless, the Reds have not yet secured his future at the club.
Van Dijk turned 33 last month and can negotiate with new clubs from January.
Liverpool will play their first game of the Premier League season against Ipswich on Saturday.
Slot was pleased to have survived the friendly match without any injuries.
Slot said: “This is not only an important week, but also an important year ahead.
“We have to improve day by day and I think we saw a lot of good things in both games today, but I can make a long list of things we need to improve, which is completely normal.
“Some of them have only started a week with our new ideas, so they have to adapt and adjust to each other. It’s normal that we are far from perfect. But even if we are far from perfect, we can score four points, that’s good.”
