West Ham fail with audacious January transfer offer to sign Barcelona star

Ter Stegen did not want to move to West Ham this winter.

However, Ter Stegen is not interested in moving to the Premier League and will instead stay in La Liga.

He is expected to join Spanish side Girona on loan this month.

The 33-year-old goalkeeper has not played a single league game this season as he lost his starting place to Joan Garcia.

Garcia, who moved to Barcelona from Espanyol in the summer, started every La Liga and Champions League game.

Ter Stegen’s only appearance came in the Copa del Rey in December, when he kept a clean sheet against third division side CD Guadalajara.

He has played over 400 games for Barca over the last 12 years, but it appears his long career at the club is over.

As captain, his departure marks the end of an impressive period in which he won a lot of silverware.

Ter Stegen won six La Liga titles with the club and also won the Champions League and six Spanish Cups.
