Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has admitted he is fighting for his job after a shocking 2-1 relegation defeat to Leicester City.
Spurs took the lead on the day through Richarlison but fell apart in the second half as they collapsed to their 13th defeat in 23 games this season. Postecoglou’s side now sit 15th in the standings, just eight points from the relegation zone.
Postecoglou has repeatedly pointed to Spurs’ serious injury problems as an explanation for their struggles this season, but after their latest defeat he admitted he may not be responsible if all of his stars are available again.
“Who knows?” Postecoglou said when asked if he would still be in charge in two weeks. “I think there’s probably a fair portion that will say no.
“When you are the manager of a football club you can be very vulnerable and isolated. I don’t have that feeling. I feel like this group of players, not for me, all for the club. I have a group of staff that is really committed.
“I can even see in training when the guys who are coming back can I say something about what I can change tomorrow morning in relation to your question?
The full-time whistle was met with a chorus of boos from supporters, many of whom directed their frustrations at chairman Daniel Levy during the game.
“Certainly what I wanted to try to do when I took on this role was to try to unify the club and create an environment here where we were all focused on the one thing,” Postcoglou said of the anti-Levy chants. “Obviously it didn’t work out that way.
“It’s understandable, as you said, the fans are not happy with our current situation. It’s difficult to navigate as we need them right now, especially at home, to create an atmosphere.
“It hasn’t been that long since we played Liverpool here and it was a great night. Everyone was focused on that. Like I said, the one thing I keep saying and I think it’s important too “The players give their all for this club and I think that’s something that needs to be recognized by everyone.”
