Manchester United fans have to wait a few days to see more from Chido Obi, the striker of teenagers, with the 17-year-old not justified to play with Real Sociedad in the Europa League this week.
Obi, the childhood child, who was picked by the Arsenal Academy in October when he was only 16 years old, fired in three of United against Tottenham Hotspur, Everton and Fulham.
The Denmark Youth International played 52 minutes against the latter after replacing Rasmus Hojlund. The FA Cup tie went to the extension, and the fans on social media have increasingly clamped for the young animal when the fights of his compatriot are continued.
But despite the last 16 first leg against Real Sociedad on Thursday, Obi cannot play in the Europa League this season.
The striker is not registered for the competition, whereby the deadline for changes in squad in the temporary season in early February. During January, Patrick Dorgu, another Dane, and Ayden Himmel, a former Arsenal colleague from Obi, was not signed.
As a rule, young players from the age of 21 can be mentioned on a more fluid ‘B’ list, but only if they have been in their club for two years, which Obi has not given his relatively recent arrival. He could be on the ‘B’ list in future seasons from 2026/27, but now he needs an “A” list area.
At the time, United had to register changes, OBI did not have to make his debut of the first team yet, and he had not been included in a game day group of the first team. It was only in the second half of January he was promoted to the U21 squad by U18, so that there is an element of sudden food in his recent ascent, even though he had tied a teenager label with it for a long time.
Amad Diallo’s injury at the end of the season evenings also fell directly to the fact that Obi got his chance against Spurs. In the first half of the season, the Ivorer had probably been the best player from United and had Ruben Amorim’s tactical system faster than any other. But his absence in combination with Marcus Rashford’s January departure two weeks earlier left a gaping hole in the attack.
