Wojciech Szczesny’s agent confirms plan for Barcelona future

Wojciech Szczesny will stay in Barcelona for a second season after he has retired to join the Catalan giants in October.

The former Poland International came up as an injury cover after Marc-Andre Ter Stegen had broken a tendon in his knee and had signed a short-term contract until summer. Ter Stegen began to repeat some training in early February and was able to start the broader squad again at some point in the next month.

But Szczesny seems to stay on it, although it is likely that it will be banished in a backup role as soon as the club captain is full next season.

“Tek is happy about Barcelona and Barca is very satisfied with TEK, so we will easily get an agreement” Jijantes.

“If the time is right, we will quickly achieve an understanding and do not set any obstacles to extend his contract,” he added without any problems.

“We are in the most important moment of the season, and maybe it is not time to talk about it, but I insist that there are no problems when we work on it and we will understand ourselves very easily.”

Szczesny first had to wait for his chance to play, and Barcelona coach Hansi Flick first gave Inaki Pena the opportunity to replace ter Stegen. However, the change for the veteran staff was made in January and deserves special praise for a recently carried out Champions League display against Benfica.

Arsenal’s former goalkeeper had surprised a lot when he called the time in his career last summer. In 2023/24 he missed only three games from Serie A for Juventus and was then Pola’s starter at the European Championship tournament.

But when his Juve contract was terminated -Szczesny later revealed that he did not plan to leave Juventus or withdraw as it ended -he decided against the search for a new club and made a shock announcement at the age of 34, only 13 days later.
